"Yes, I Can Operate A Tivo"
From the land of the Tivo-challenged, this consumer's adventure.
The TiVo finally loads. We get to watch an invisible entity navigate through TiVo menus. And then seemingly get confused. Because, see, there are now two, count ‘em, two Gilmore Girls entries in TiVo. The invisible TiVo controller choose the first one. Which contains the last six minutes of the show and only the last six minutes of the show. Upon encountering this, the TiVo controller apparently became overwhelmed and decided to turn off the screen while such things are sorted out.

Touchzel - Apple's New Handheld Control
ecent patent filing for “Electronic Device Having Display and Surrounding Touch Sensitive Bezel for User Interface and Control” shows that Apple has developed another interesting way to operate it’s portable gadgets. Instead of dedicated buttons, touchpads or scroll wheels that uses a lot of precious real estate of the handheld, Apple suggests that we use a narrow touch sensitive bezel around the perimeter of the device for data input and control.

Dutch Design
Dutch consumers get lots of good design option, even in household products. Check this report.
This love of modern design can be seen in many aspects of Dutch life. Interiors, household products, clothing- so many things seem to be beautifully and simply designed, even at shops the equivalent of Target or KMart. Where there are antiques or older objects, they are placed within a modern context.

Attack Of The Morning Glories
Consumers with composters may have problems with invasive plants like morning glories.
Click through for the report. Our back yard composters use a ‘passive’ method of composting which means that our piles never get hot enough to kill invasive weed seeds or root systems. So by composting Morning glory or any invasive plant you will simply be transplanting the problem into other parts of your yard via compost.

Jill's Storm Experience
Consumers may want to keep generators handy for running vital appliances like refrigerators after a storm.
Read this report from Buffalo. We have not had power since 9 p.m. Thursday night. We are lucky to have an extensive family here in Buffalo and many resources to draw on. After borrowing two generators from several brother-in-law’s friends in Rochester we were able to power the sump pump and refrigerators and my brother-in-law from Williamsville was able to do the same. We got on the list for buying a generator and then hooked up my father-in-law’s oxygen machine (he has tanks, but you get nervous about running out!). We now still do not have power, but the generator has been hooked up to power the furnace. The house had been down to about 55 degrees. When I left for work it was up to about 60 degrees. It’s a sunny day, so that should help bum it up a few degrees.

This consumer reports on the 2006 Volkswagen Passat.
My weekly test drive on a recent visit to the Monterey Peninsula was the 2006 Volkswagen Passat. It's available in three versions, the 4-cylinder Value Edition and 2.0T (turbocharged) models and the higher performance V6 marketed as the sports model.
