As for the extended warranty, that’s really a judgment call. I’ve never had need to use one on a desktop product, but on portable devices that take a lot of abuse, it’s often a prudent measure. It’s worth checking your credit card policy, though. American Express, for example, double the standard warranty on any product purchased with their cards. That can save you a lot of money and get you the same kind of coverage.
