Life Assurance And Virtual Worlds
This consumer reports on a funny life insurance letter from the bank.
My bank did one of its regular mail-outs to advertise its life insurance scheme. As anyone will tell you, if you put text in front of me I’ll read it, so Sharon was startled when I burst out laughing reading an insurance form…

Sears Saga
This consumer reports on changes in the refrigerator market, and the problem of more frequent repairs.
Sometimes appliances die. Sure. But we baby boomers grew up in a world where major ones, like refrigerators, died maybe in 20 or 30 years, if ever. I’m going to chronicle my sad personal saga as it happens–a good thing to do with a corporate blog if you can tie it to how your customers will never experience this kind of thing with your company.

Fight Back! With David Horowitz
A look at consumer reporter David Horowitz.
David Horowitz, a consumer reporter guy I'd never heard of before said show, would do... uhm, consumer reporting. For instance, if someone had an issue with identity theft from a certain chain (called Leona's), sending it in to Horowitz was the way to get it solved.

Abandoned Shopping Carts
This report looks at reasons that consumer abandon online shopping carts, and what to do about it.
Online shoppers abandon shopping carts for a variety of reasons. They may balk at a shipping charge or total price of multiple items. They might encounter problems entering credit card information or perceive the checkout process as too long. In the online world, it’s not as easy to recover a sale when a customer interacts with a screen and can exit with a click of a mouse. But it’s not impossible. An interesting study by Marketing Experiments on using email follow ups to save sales from abandoned carts gives some insight on how.

Long Weekend!
I hope you have a wonderful, happy 4th of July! :D We’re planning a bbq complete with steak and potato salad (which I bought and didn’t make because I haven’t mentioned that our dishwasher - less than a year old - is making a very weird noise and won’t be fixed until the 5th, and I just can’t bear to dirty that many dishes for so little reward as a mediocre potato salad when I can just buy a mediocre potato salad with no cleanup. Flawless logic, no?). We’ll also have chips and dip, plenty of backyard water fun, and of course the fireworks.

Earthaven Ecovillage Impressions
This consumer reports on the infrastructure at Earthaven Ecovillage, including the hot water.
The roads within Earthaven are gravel with bridges over the streams suitable for heavy trucks. There are numerous well used walking paths through the forest between buildings and neighborhoods. Several mountain streams meander through the property. Fourteen natural springs provide drinking water. There are filtered water stations strategically placed around the site. Hot water comes from solar water heaters. Electricity is generated by photovoltaic panels on the roof of each building and one small hydroelectric power plant that provides power to the central neighborhood. Toilets are composting and peeing in the woods is encouraged. There are small propane tanks (like the kind used for BBQ grilles) used for cooking.
